是的，美国的高级军衔直到“一战”、“二战”才放开，以前都压得很低。还有很多是去世后追认的，比如华盛顿，生前只是少将。可能怕军人膨胀吧。
格兰特确实与众不同，但也不是一帆风顺，他在东部将步履艰难，因为李不是吃素的。还有很多血要流啊。

从军衔上似乎可以看出美国人在军队建制上的克制，1860年代，最高军衔才是少将。
